In this master thesis the behaviour of reverse channel sections subjected totension or compression has been investigated. Seven different tests in tension,where type of channel section and thickness varied and seven tests incompression where thickness and temperature is varied, are presented.FE models have been created to match with experimental tests.The FE-models are made with the program Abaqus, where a 3D model of theU-channel is made and thereafter analysed. A load displacement curve from themodel is compared to real test results of the same specimen from a universityin Coimbra, Portugal.In addition, a literature review concerning the relevant theoretical aspects aboutthis subject is presented.The results from the finite element analyses of tests in tension compared to theperformed experimental test showed that the maximum achieved load differedwithin a range of 1-9%.The load-displacement curve of the model in compression partly fitted well tothe test results from Coimbra and the model could be useful for furtheranalytical research. Two different approaches for the analytical solution weretried out. None of them were perfect but with further work they can be useful.
