Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates the possibility of using simulation tools in the process of designing and improving the different test processes at Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, in Linköping. The test process is a step in the manufacturing of GSM mobile phones. It’s a process where the products are tested, trimmed and where the software is flashed into the flash memory of the phone. This thesis treats the making process of two different types of simulation models. One simulation software based (Taylor II) model and one spreadsheet model. Aiming at making a flexible model solution of the test flow, so that it can be used to simulate various future process scenarios. And thereby reviling different parameters affects, on the test flow, in terms of cost and capacity. Also "imbed" the simulation in a familiar software environment, to accomplish a tool that allows the use by personnel without any deeper simulation experience. The progress of making these two models is done by interchange with involved personnel, literature studies and research at the factory plant. This project resulted in two models used in the process of evaluating and designing new test flow equipment. At the test department a “simulation station” is established with a computer and required software, the model and instructions on how to use the simulation model. Further the spreadsheet model is distributed among the personnel.
