Abstract [en]

This thesis will look at the problem if is it possible to economically recover the fines from an Australian iron ore concentrator plant. In order to do this five different iron minerals and two major Australian ore types were selected. Test runs on the minerals and ores were done on a laboratory scale wet high intensity separator (RAPID WHIMS). Then test runs on the two different ore types were carried out on a pilot scale wet high intensity magnetic separator (ERIEZ WHIMS). Finally a conversion factor was determined in order to do test runs on the RAPID WHIMS and using the results to predict how the results would have been if the test runs had been carried out on the ERIEZ WHIMS.
