Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to describe the experience adults diagnosed with ADHD have of occupational balance in their daily lives. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews, the interviews were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. Four men and three women participated in the study. Inclusion criteria for participation were that they should be between 18-30 years, diagnosed with ADHD, have experience of work and / or study, understand and speak Swedish. The analysis revealed three categories; the relationship between health and occupational balance, how routines affect an individual's activity balance and the importance of health in achieving occupational balance. The results showed how health affected the participants' activity balance. The results also showed that participants will need to have strategies and routines to achieve a balanced lifestyle. Furthermore, the result showed that it was important for the participants to take the support of tools to hold the balance in everyday life. If individuals with ADHD are aware of the disadvantages and the advantages of the diagnosis they are able to handle the activities of daily life and finally attain an occupational balance that they are satisfied with.
