Transmission link for interconnection of subracks

Abstract [en]

The Ericsson division for multiservice networks (DMN) offers a new combined broadband and narrowband platform called the Engine Access Ramp (EAR). The focus of this report is placed on the interconnection of subracks within the EAR. Today EAR provide several ways to interconnect these subracks, in sense of bitrate and transmission medium. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate and identify a low-cost transmission link, for short range interconnection and be able to provide high bitrates above 622Mbps. There are many high bitrate interconnection standards on the market, the question is whether they can be used for data transmission between circuit boards within the EAR and what kind of adaptation that has to be made. Apart from the transmission link evaluation, this report also includes an owerview of EAR, features and technologies used in the access system. Evaluations made of transmission modules manufactured by different companies resulted in one device that has been analyzed further. It is concluded that the transmission module from National Semiconductor has the best overall performance and also requires the least amount of adaptation to the Exchange Terminal board (ET).
