Evaluation of health risks and health conditions at two work sites of Iran Khodro Car Company

Abstract [en]

This study was carried out at IKCO and the research work was focusing on to find out relationship between health risk and health problem. The objective of this study was to determine the extend of musculoskeletal disorder because of health risks in the selected work sites and evaluate health condition in those selected work sites by considering organizational factor. The questionnaires and interview materials were translated to the local language (Persian) and were distribute by the project partner to subjects. The methodology used for this investigation for collecting data/information involved both objective and subjective assessment. The subjects were selected randomly from the two of work sites at IKCO Company. The sample size selected in each work site was 30. Participants for this study were selected from the press shop (site) that was exposed to higher level of health risks (experimental group) and the store site exposed to lower level health risks (Control group) according to PEDAR (The Occupational health department) at IKCO. In this study workers’ perception of work condition and musculoskeletal disorders symptom was investigated. Statistical T-Test analyses were conducted for comparing workers’ perception regarding work and health condition of workers at two selected work site. Such as Chi-square test at 95% level of significance were used for finding out relationship between health risk and health problem. Analysis of the results shows that work condition, psychological factors and work organisational factors had important role for developing health problem. The results shows that workers at both work sites were exposed to the ergonomic risk factors and percentage of prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among employees of the two work sites were almost at the same level. In this study health problem at press site was related more to work stress and dissatisfaction with work organisation. In the store site health problem was related to work condition, poor posture, manual materials handling, heavy load, which were factors for developing musculoskeletal disorders among workers.
