The influence of the large diaphragm microphone grille on the performance of the microphone
2004 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The performance of large diaphragm microphones is influenced by the microphone head grille enclosing and protecting the capsule. Diffractions and reflections from the grille interfere with the original sound waves approaching the capsule, altering the high frequency response of the microphone. Difference in acoustical impedance between the air surrounding the microphone and the air enclosed by the grille influences the frequency response of the microphone. Measurement results presented in this essay show that the frequency response of the grille depends on the shape of the grille and the angle of sound incidence.
