Bilingualism: about language acquisition and bilingual education
2002 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The aim was to find out if it is possible to become bilingual in English and Spanish through schooling. It was concentrated on the English and Spanish used in the U.S. To do so it was necessary to learn more about language acquisition, bilingualism, and about the language situation in the U.S. of today. Those facts were taken out of books. The study also included observations of a child who is a student of a Dual Language Program, and interviews with her mother and teacher. It was found that this program seems to be very effective. The student had already learnt a lot and the teacher did not have any doubts that the student would not be fully bilingual by the time of the graduation from that school.
