Software tool for the correct use of design methods

Abstract [en]

Many products of today need careful planning of various aspects such as financing, functionality, quality, reliability, environmental impact, etc, to be successful. To help engineers in the complicated task of product design, there are a number of design methods. However, the majority of methods used in industry is performed incorrectly or in the wrong stage in the development, and thus give poor results. To overcome this problem, a software tool should be developed. The software tool should be able to let users perform the design methods through a graphical user interface, and store data from the activities in a database. In addition to this, the tool should function as a guide for the user in the selection process. The system should pose questions to the user, and use the answers to steer the user towards the correct design method.
