Relaxation dynamics of superfluid 4He in aerogel: a Monte Carlo simulation

Abstract [en]

This master of science thesis reports the theoretical studies of relaxation dynamic of critical behaviour of superfluid 4He in aerogel with 95% porosity. Measurements of the statical correlation exponent nu and an estimation of the specific heat exponent alpha is also included. Aerogel is known to be a quenched correlated disordered solid and is modelled as a 3D critical spanning site percolation cluster with lowering coupling on the bonds. The superfluid is modelled by the Monte Carlo classical XY-model with periodic boundary conditions. The exponent nu showed an increase comparing to the pure XY-model and alpha a decrease. However, the relaxation dynamic exponent z showed no difference comparing to the classical XY-model and was measured to z=2.0.
