Abstract [en]

The Internet today may not support a sufficiently high degree of freedom and mobility the users request. The fundamental problem is in the design of the network layer of the Internet stack, which currently has two purposes: naming and forwarding. The aim of this thesis is to investigate if there are any problems implementing a proposal for a more flexible naming system called SING and to explore if SING alleviates the previously stated problem once implemented. The implementation of SING has been done in the Linux kernel with some supporting services written in user space. This proof-of-concept implementation shows that SING is implementable and that it helps solve some problems related to IP mobility.
