Abstract [en]

In today’s society people must plan for the future in terms of bigger investments such as a house etc. To be able to buy these expensive things one want, one can either loan or save money. Since many investments in life are expensive the time to save enough money can be long. During this long period of time it is important to make the money grow as much as possible. Many studies have shown that the stock market usually gives better profit in the long run than traditional accounts and because of that more people have lately chosen to invest their money there. Acting on the stock market is not easy and the decisions that have to be made are not easily made. Seeing this problem and knowing the area of decision support system we felt that a stock market decision support system could help the investor when acting on the stock market. When we studied the existing material regarding decision making in the stock market area we found an area that was inadequately researched. Seeing this we felt that this was something that we wanted to address. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if a decision support system, based on our new trend analysis idea of analyzing a stock, could help the investor when acting on the stock market. After exploring our idea we found out that our idea could contribute with additional information for the investor when taking a decision. This additional information is beneficial for the investor and helps the investor to take a better decision regarding which action to take.
