Product inventory database in the sub network manager
2001 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The thesis evaluates different database technologies and designs by performance testing of several database prototypes. The evaluation was done in order to produce a prototype that fulfilled the performance requirements, and could work as a product inventory database in the sub network manager (SNM) of a 3G mobile Radio Access Network (RAN). The use of a product inventory database in the sub network is necessary to collect all information about the components within the sub network in a central unit. The centralization of the data will carry out a rapid and cost effective maintenance of the system and minimize the network load for exchange of this kind of data. The evaluation also considers aspects as complexity of the chosen database implementation. The thesis shows relational database solutions and object oriented database solutions fulfilling the performance requirements. Further the thesis show facts that indicate an object-oriented solution could be feasible when we either are working with complex data, want to store all data in cache memory or need quick insertion time.
