Abstract [en]

Society of today handles more and more information. More people and companies have to spread information fast and over long distances. The channel often used for this is the Internet. Internet works well if the ambition is to just spread the information, but if the ambition is to spread the information securely, the information has to be protected somehow. When security, in the form of encryption, authentication and integrity is added to a system, then a loss in performance is inevitable. Especially encryption is demanding on CPU power. Therefore it can be sound to strive for selective encryption. In this thesis, an implementation of a STREAMS module that can be configured to encrypt partial parts of messages is presented. This way the performance loss is reduced while the security is still maintained.
