EMU - the impact of the euro on Swedish comapnies

Abstract [en]

The introduction of the euro presents important strategic, technical and organisational challenges for companies. All the European companies need to address this issue and to analyse how the euro will impact their activities. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the impact of the euro on Swedish small- and midsize companies’ business environment. In order to solve the research questions, a questionnaire was sent to 10 Swedish small- and midsize companies. The results state that the euro will bring cheaper export/import, prices will change, and a nich-low-cost/differentiation strategy will be applied in order to stay competitive in the Euroland. Furthermore, the companies have made preparations through contacting important suppliers, started revision of price lists, and most of the companies will changeover to the euro after January 2002. However, the overall conclusions are that the EMU and euro will affect Swedish companies whether Sweden joins the EMU or not.
