Design of a graphical supported in-vehicle speech user interface

Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis was to find in-vehicle functions appropriate for a Speech User Interface (SUI). The aim was also to design a supporting Graphical User Interface (GUI) that clarifies the SUI structure. The work was distributed into the areas Function Determination, SUI, GUI and Help Function. Systematic Problem Handling methods were used to examine, solve and judge problems throughout the development process. Interviews and investigations of existing speech recognition systems were held to find out car functions suitable for a voice controlled system. The interviews showed that complex and driver distracting functions are functions most suitable for voice control. The supporting GUI were designed to be consistent and to have clear symbolism. The help function was designed to be situation adapted.
