Abstract [en]

This report describes the analysis and optimization of universal joints located in an arbitrary steering column in an automotive application. The optimization is carried out with respect to rotational stiffness and weight. High rotational stiffness of the universal joints is critical to achieve good handling characteristics and low weight is always important in the automotive industry. Furthermore is the effect of joint angle and angular position on rotational stiffness investigated. FE software is used for the analysis and the optimization is carried out with a parameterized model according to the statistical factorial design method, which indicates the effect of each parameter
