2000 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

This Master’s Thesis examines the use of push technology. It is focused on using push within the boundaries of a corporate Intranet. During the work a system for pushing information along with suitable information channels among computers on the Ericsson Microwave Systems Intranet was developed by the author. Two different approaches where evaluated. The first uses a table of contents file to locate the channels. The second uses IP multicast to deliver channels to the clients. Conclusions are that an Intranet is the most suitable place to use push enabled software, and that it is essential that push works in this environment before taking on the Internet. The IP multicast approach is the preferred solution and the advantages implied by targeting an Intranet both simplifies development and increases the chances of successful system.
