The purpose of this master thesis project was to investigate possibilities to improve integration and collaboration between departments for CAD and CAM engineers at Gestamp Hardtech. The aims were to allow a more parallel work process between departments and also to use Teamcenter, a so called PLM system, for managing CAM related files.Gestamp Hardtech is in the process of switching to using Siemens NX for CAD purposes. For CAM preparation they use Tebis. One of the aspects of the project was to evaluate potential advantages for using NX for CAM processing as well.In addition to literature studies and prior knowledge from the education, several experts in the fields of CAD, CAM and PLM from Conex Software, Gestamp Hardtech and Luleå University of Technology have been consulted throughout the project to obtain qualified knowledge in the different steps. The project has followed an iterative process that began with a current-situation-analysis at Gestamp Hardtech, followed by concept generation interspersed with detailed investigations. Thanks to this method focus could be assigned assessing aspects that were valuable to Gestamp Hardtech’s needs.In the end, two final concepts were specified, one using Tebis for CAM preparation and the other using NX. Both concepts used Teamcenter for file management.Evaluations of the final concepts and related part investigations showed that implementing PLM software for file management could save the company over one MSEK per year. Functions in NX also made it possible to save time on CAM processing, including the program being able to adapt previous CAM tool paths to changes in the CAD geometry. With the saved time, roughly 10 hours per tool and lower maintenance costs the NX concept could save Gestamp Hardtech more than 1,5 MSEK per year.
