How companies collaborate to create value on the Internet: case studies on telecom operators
2001 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to gain a better understanding about the situation that local loop operators face. Specifically to understand how the operators and other firms collaborate to create value, and how this affects the competitive advantage of the operator. The study is based on empirical findings from local loop operators in Europe who are all affected by the developments on the market. The operators were asked how they create value, how they will offer their services, what type of pricing structures they will use, how they benefit from the collaboration etc. This thesis indicates that syndication is a proper description of the collaboration to create value on the Internet. In syndication, operators primarily assume two roles, distributor and syndicator. Distributor being the traditional role of the operator. This report also indicates that syndication is not likely to create an interorganizational competitive advantage for the operators. Syndication may, however, facilitate the creation of a resource based competitive advantage.
