Engine mounted Declutchable Fully Integrated Hydraulic Pump: EDFIHP

Abstract [en]

Volvo Group Truck Technologies works continuously to make better products for their customers and an integrated solution for a hydraulic pump and a power-take-off is one of them. The new pump develop is called EDFIHP which stands for Engine mounted Declutchable Fully Integrated Hydraulic Pump. In this report the work carried out during the master thesis to reach a higher technical readiness level, (TRL), is explained. To achieve higher TRL new concepts for the flange and rotation indication were developed and the design of the assembly was updated. A FMEA was constructed for EDFIHP and the systems risk was evaluated. The risks where thought of during the design update and the result is a new design of EDFIHP which is 42 mm shorter and weights 8.9 % less than today’s assembly. A new feature with EDFIHP is that it has a rotatable mounting which means that it can be mounted at different angels to ease the assembly in the trucks architecture.

Two proof-of-concept prototype GEN1 was manufactured and tested with an assembly and function bench test. GEN1 could go through a simplified function bench test successfully and therefore proved that EDFIHP works in laboratory environment. The new design of EDFIHP has through the thesis reached a TRL above 5 and the areas which need to be further developed for a robust B- release are known.
