Abstract [en]

This study examines how financial control and economic objectives affect sport objectives andattendance average. It further examines sport clubs in transition into professional ones. Thehistory has shown that many sport clubs have been struggling with significant financialdifficulties. This makes it important to discuss more deeply if professional management affectsthe probability to achieve sport objectives. The thesis is conducted in Sweden asking the 109most attractive clubs in terms of audience. 87 out of the 109 clubs filled in a questionnaireaccounting for a response rate of 80%. The results reveal some interesting explanations andconnections. We developed several theoretical constructs in which all of them meet criteria ofreliability. Our results concrete how financial control and economic objectives control sportobjectives and attendance average in sport clubs. Moreover, our results demonstrate howattendance average to a high extent can explain some sport objectives. The implication is thatsport clubs may use this knowledge by using benchmarking to learn more which may have apositive impact on their club.
