The ability of the refractory material to resist wear during the Höganäsprocess dependslargely on its properties, both in the ready-made state and during the process. Thesecharacteristics play a decisive role in the extent of wear of the refractory material. In thefollowing thesis work, the impact of the process on the refractory material has beeninvestigated. In addition, characteristics of two different refractories have been compared toidentify the parameters that have the greatest impact on wear. The work has been carried outat Calderys Nordic AB in Höganäs for 10 weeks. The results of the experimental work demonstrated a big difference in chemical compositionof the two types of refractories both before and after use. Furthermore, the parameters thathave an effect on wear has been identified and evaluated. Based on this work, suggestionswere made for a new type of lining. In order to ensure the applicability of these proposals to the process, it is recommended thatmore extensive investigations (of the new proposals) are made, which is not included withinthe timeframe for this work
