Abstract [en]
When a school's routines about how students intend to learn the spelling of words from a foreign language are compared to what existing science says are the most important factors for being able to meet this knowledge, a gap between them can be identified. When studies about the use of digital glossaries show advantages in the field of learning foreign language words, a number of existing digital glossaries are investigated to see how they handle these, important scientific factors. The result shows that existing digital notebooks do not focus on these important factors, such as repeating in large numbers and repetition over time.
This leads to this report whose intention has been to develop a number of design principles aimed at facilitating the development of systems that are comparable to digital glossaries and addressing the identified gap.
To ensure the validity of the design principles, a prototype that focuses on repetition is created according to the principles, in app format and evaluated by expert in the field. A further development of the prototype could later be used in future studies to study how the student's results are affected by using a digital glossary that incorporates elements that are missing in existing routines. These are elements that are not offered through investigated existing apps whose purpose is to act as digital glossaries.
