Abstract [en]
The aim of this thesis work is to give helpful information to Polarfönster about the current state in the production. This information can then work as support for communication with current customers. But also to lift up needs to make the implementation of new customers and products easier. Focus will be on making the production more product flexible, mostly by illustrating current problems that prevent flexibility today and give suggestions of improvement through using parts of lean and changes in the work environment. Theory about lean and work environment has therefore been collected to be the foundation to the suggestion of solution.
To collect data about the current state interviews, observations and time and methods studies has been used. Also a value stream map was made to give more information about the situation today. Thereafter the current state was analysed with focus on flexibility and with a fish bone diagram four main causes could be found. These were; work environment, rotation, customers and production philosophy. A list of requirements to make the production flexible could then be formulated.
This list together with inspiration from other industries resulted in two focus areas, how tools from lean and making the work environment better can improve the production. Focus on the lean tools was to make it easier to communicate and spread information, both between the workers but also between workers, managers and owners. For the work environment especially the problems at the painting station was enlighten, because it both affects the flexibility for the employees and the possibility to bring in new customers and products.
