Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how a walk with your own dog could make a difference in perceived stress, and also if there could be a difference in the stress hormone, cortisol. In this study, a quantitative questionnaire was used together with a saliva sample to measure the cortisol levels before and after the walk. In the study, 10 dog owners participated and the result showed a significant decrease within the cortisol levels. Most of the participants also thought that the walk with their dogs made them feel less stressed. Our conclusion is that a walk with your own dog may seem to promote health and reduce stress. However, the authors can not reach a specific conclusion that a dog can function as a mean for health promotion to all and everyone of us.
