The purpose of this work was to design a protective cover for the gear mechanism that was developed during the Sirius project 2019 at Luleå University of Technology and to mount and test the gearbox that the said project constructed. The gearbox was developed together with BAE Systems Hägglunds during this project. By testing the system, any eventual problems that exist can be identified and corrected.
The gearbox was tested in an already constructed test rig. Before testing could begin, the problems that arose during assembly had to be addressed. These problems came to limit testing due to lack of time but also due to function. However, some conclusions could be drawn from the tests that were carried out. The gearbox works as intended, but during operation it does not rotate completely concentrically and the manufacturing defects of the synchronization unit may have affected the function of the gear selector.
The position of the actuator on the gearbox had to be adjusted in order to have enough space for the location of the protective cover. The protective cover is designed as a complete cover for the gear mechanism and its design has been heavily dependent on the surrounding geometry.
