Bracke Forest established in the 1920:s is a company that manufactures forest equipment such as mounders. This Master’s Thesis has been focused on the mounders M24 and M36 where M36 is a three-row mounder and M24 is a two- row mounder. Both mounders has a platform and these platforms are different between M24 and M36. The mounders also have a mounting-set that that you have to mount on the forwarder before it is possible to mount the mounder. The M36 mounting-set also requires cutting of the rear frame on the forwarder. M24 mounting-set does not require cutting of the rear frame.
The purpose with this Master’s Thesis is to design a common platform for M24 and M36. The goal with this common platform is to get a lower cost with at least 2 % for the company when they deliver a mounted mounder on the forwarder to the customer. This project did not contain any manufacturing of a prototype. The new platform has to conform with existing mounting-sets with some modifications on the mounting-sets if modifications is advantageous. Ulrich & Eppingers product development process has been applied during this project. The result of the project is a common platform for M24 and M36 and a new common mounting-set. Cost has been reduced with 2,5 % for a M36 mounder with mounting and 3 % for a M24 with mounting.
