Golf är en av världens mest populära sporter och utövas av miljontals människor världen över, oavsett ålder och spelnivå. Denna tvärsnittsstudie undersöker sambandet mellan greppstyrka och golfhandikapp bland 140 golfspelare på semielit- och fritidsnivå. Deltagarna, 101 män och 39 kvinnor, rekryterades från golfklubbar, gym och golfsimulatoranläggningar i norra Sverige. Greppstyrkan mättes med en JAMARR handdynamometer, och spelarens golfhandikapp hämtades från Min Golf, golfförbundets handikappadministration. Resultaten visade en svag men signifikant negativ korrelation mellan greppstyrka och golfhandikapp bland manliga spelare (p <0,05), vilket indikerar att starkare grepp är associerat med lägre handikapp. Däremot påvisades ingen signifikant korrelation hos kvinnliga spelare. Vid analys av hela gruppen med dikotomiserade data framkom en tendens där spelare med högre greppstyrka oftare hade lägre handikapp, men detta resultat nådde inte signifikansnivå. Studien bidrar till förståelsen av greppstyrkans potentiella roll i golfprestationer, särskilt hos män. Resultaten kan användas för att utveckla träningsprogram för prestation, rehabilitering och skadeförebyggande åtgärder. Framtida forskning bör inkludera fler variabler och en mer balanserad könsfördelning för att fördjupa förståelsen av dessa samband.

Abstract [en]

Golf is a widely practiced sport, attracting over 60 million players worldwide. Recent research has explored the relationship between physical attributes and golf performance, including grip strength. This cross-sectional study investigates the correlation between grip strength and handicap among semi-elite and recreational golfers. A total of 140 participants (101 men and 39 women) were tested using a JAMARR hand dynamometer to measure grip strength in both hands. Handicap was recorded based on the World Handicap System. Results showed a weak but statistically significant negative correlation between grip strength and handicap among male participants (p < 0.05). However, no significant correlation was observed for female participants. A chi-square test analyzing dichotomized data suggested a non-significant trend where players with higher grip strength were more likely to have a lower handicap. These findings highlight a potential link between grip strength and golf performance in men but not in women. Methodological factors, such as sample size and variability in handicap distribution among women, may explain the lack of significant results in the female group. The study suggests that grip strength may serve as a useful measure in training and rehabilitation for male golfers, while further research is needed to explore gender-specific factors affecting golf performance.
