Effect of temperature on flotation kinetics in amine flotation of glass spheres

Abstract [en]

The flotation of glass spheres of size fractions 1-50 μm, 40-70 μm, and 100-200 μm has been studied for variable flotation temperatures of 10, 20, 30, and 40°C. The flotation was performed with a Wemco with a double wall type flotation machine with circulating water from a thermostat. DDAHCI at a concentration 10-4M, pH = 9.5 was used as collector and frother. The results show intensification of the flotation kinetics of fine balotinis (fractions 1-50 μm and 40-70 μm) at 40°C and no effect on the flotation of coarse spheres (fraction 100-200 μm). The results are discussed as to the possibility of increasing the contact angle of the particles and increasing the mobility of the three-phase contact due to reduced viscosity of the solution (two times compared to 10°C) and reduced detachment resistance of coarse particles at 40°, which does not allow the use of increasing contact angles for the coarse particles.
