Abstract [en]

The report contains a brief review of the various unit processes for uranium extraction, particularly extraction in an acid environment. The properties and treatment of the residues are described in detail with reference to the uranium deposit at Lilljuthatten in the Swedish province of Jamtland. The results show that the tailings have good properties from an environmental standpoint. This is largely because the ore does not need to be ground to small particle sizes for leaching. The properties of the tailings can be further improved by stabilization with cement or pozzuolane.
