Abstract [en]

This study describes the initial results of the rehabilitation for patients with cruciate ligament injuries. 569 patients entered the study, 460 could by analysed in detail. Four different protocols of physical therapy were used; 1. Functional (proprioceptive) training, 2. Isokinetic strength training, 3. Functional training with isokinetic training integrated throughout the entire period. All therapies were combined with modification of daily activities. Rehabilitation goals were set af 90% strength and function of the injured leg, in relation to the other side. Strength measurements were done in the Cybex-II-dynamometer. Knee function tests were done and Lysholm score were notes as well as Tegner activity scale. 60% reached the goal of 90% strength in knee-extension at 30beta/sec and 72% and 180 degrees/sec. 65% of the patients were classified as Excellent/Good in Lysholm score. 67% reached the goal in the 8-figure running-test, and 72% in one-leg-hop. 46%$ of the patients could return to their preinjury level of activity. 10% had a ligament reconstruction done. We conclude that physical therapy could be one alternative when treating patients with cruciate ligament injuries.
