    Abstract [en]

    Real-time monitoring of dye loading (N3 and N719) under continuous flow conditions on TiO2 photoanodes for dye-sensitized solar cells has been applied to quantitatively investigate dye uptake kinetics, demonstrating that static impregnation provides in all cases higher dye loading and, as a consequence, better working devices. © 2011 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

    Crystalline nitrodiphenyl ureas adopt the N-H...O tape α-network only when stabilization accrues from the I...O2N or C=C-H...O2N synthon, otherwise the urea...nitro motif is preferred; soft, weak interactions can direct polar self-assembly in strong N-H...O hydrogen-bonded crystals.

    Two-dimensional 1H double-quantum and 14N- 1H & 1H- 13C heteronuclear magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectra recorded at natural isotopic abundance identify specific intermolecular COOH⋯N arom and CH arom⋯OC hydrogen-bonding interactions in the solid-state structure of an indomethacin-nicotinamide cocrystal, thus additionally proving cocrystal formation.

    Novel solvent systems composed of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and C1–C4 carboxylic acid exhibit unique physicochemical properties, e.g. large polarity, low viscosity and excellent hydrogen bonding capacity, which have demonstrated excellent lignin solubility that outperforms conventional solvents and ionic liquids.

    Acesulfame is found to exist in two crystalline forms of which Form I (needles) shows bending upon mechanical stress. Crystal structures explain their mechanical response. This is the first case of aliphatic organic compounds featuring a bending phenomenon. Form I is physically more stable than Form II in ambient conditions.

    The ambient humidity and the nature of substrates are considered coordinately in the assembly of nano-sized crystals. The nanocrystal monolayers show large-area uniformity without any aggregates. Zeolite and hematite monolayers with thicknesses of 20–100 nm and excellent orientations are produced.
