Development of an overhead lift2011Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The project concerns the development of an overhead lift and was initiated by SHL Healthcare, a company that manufactures rehabilitation equipment for the hospital and home healthcare market. The lift is an aid developed for a person with a limited ability to independently change body position and to move from one place to another. Its main function is to facilitate an independent transfer or a transfer with the assistance of another person. SHL estimates that there is a market for a new improved lift. The purpose of the project is to create an interface between the sling and the power source of the lift. Development of a hand unit is also included in the project. The concept shall be cost-effective and innovative. The result will serve as a foundation for further development. The work has followed a systematic design process and a large amount of time has been spent on the pre-study. Methods such as interviews, study visits and Personas have been carried out to find out what the problem really consist of. After the pre-study a concept generation and further development of the concept were performed. The result consists of a generic product concept of an overhead lift with improved function, appearance and ergonomics. It is innovative and it is better adapted to the users that it is aimed for. The result of the project is presented with rendered images, CAID/CAD-models made in Alias Automotive and SolidWorks and a physical model.
