    Abstract [en]

This master thesis was conducted as a part of the project Smart Innovation in collaboration with Skogstekniska Klustret, Bracke Forest AB and Luleå University of Technology. The goal of the projects in Smart Innovation is to create a wider collaboration between the forest companies and the academic by conducting innovative projects. Bracke Forest AB conducts its business in Bräcke, Jämtland and is one of the leading companies in the rejuvenation of forest and develop and manufacture scarifiers, planting machines, silviculture and biomass heads, felling heads and equipment for mechanized seeding. The aim of this master’s thesis is to increase the efficiency of Bracke Forests boom tip mounted planting unit P11:a by developing a seedling re-filler to its plant feeding system. The seedling re-filler has been developed using known product development processes and has resulted in a concept including comprising three distinct designs: Alignment, Storage unit and Seedling Re-filler. The seedling re-filler concept also includes a forwarder which carries the storage units and also has the seedling re-filler mounted on the forwarder crane. The alignment design is mounted on the P11:a. The concept is designed to primarily be used in eucalyptus plantations in Brazil and China but is still adapted to be used in Sweden. An analysis was made comparing the recharging times of the rapid charger and manual feeding and indicates that the rapid charge has a potential to save 87% of the recharging times. The concept has been constructed in Siemens NX and also a test bed was made to analyze the concept’s plant handling. Stress analyses and material selection have been made for all the constituent parts to ensure that the design can cope with the introduced loads which indicate that the solution will work as intended.
