    Det finns idag stora problem med bevarande av digitalt material. Centrum för långsiktigt digitalt bevarande är en kontaktyta för samverkan runt lösningar på dessa problem och en av de tidiga aktörerna som arbetar med FoU i samverkan med sina partners inom detta område. Artikeln beskriver hur etableringen av centret gått till och vad som krävs för att förverkliga och konsolidera en centrumbildning så att den kontinuerligt utvecklar ny vetenskapligt grundad kunskap som löser problem för parter och andra intressenter.

    Abstract [en]

    The EU FP7 PROTAGE project opens up a novel approach to digital preservation by utilizing agent ecosystems for automation of preservation processes. The resulting preservation tools have the potential to enable integrated automated digital preservation operations in digital archives and libraries of different scales throughout Europe. It could also assist individuals in preserving their personal digital collections. The PROTAGE multi-agent system, a set of integrated tools, is developed as a prototype system in several iterations. The first prototype contains functionality for pre-ingest, i.e. the preparation of information packages for transfer from active usage to a digital archive.

    Abstract [en]

    Preservation of digital information is a vexing problem for preservation agencies. Properties or functionalities of the preserved object can be lost over time. Digital preservation is an ongoing, proactive process of preserving information and its significance over time. In this article, we conduct a theoretical and an empirical study in Swedish preservation agencies to identify and define a set of essential information properties for long-term preservation. Among identified properties, the study confirmed that knowledge on how to guarantee quality of preserved digital information is low and showed that guiding quality principles need to be established. The need for a unified information quality assurance framework was also highly confirmed.

    Abstract [en]

    Awareness and understanding of strategic IT- and information security appears to be a low priority amongst senior managers although this falls within their responsibilities. In this paper a tested and confirmed model used to explain strategic IT- and information security is described. The model has been iteratively developed and applied in development, implementation or training in five different organizations. In these five cases, senior management awareness and understanding of strategic IT- and information security was verified as being very low. The model was originally developed to explain IT- and information security to corporate senior management. It has been adapted for use in the public sector by changing some of the terminology to match that used within the public sector. The model may also be used for training purposes, with regards to senior management or personnel in strategic IT- and information security. The importance of senior management ownership and care for strategic elements of the organization's security programme is also discussed and the conclusion drawn is that the operative levels should be coordinated by one or a few members of the senior management team.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this paper is to high-light problems regarding user actability and security implementations – what are the important mechanisms that affect actability in usage situations? Alignment between actability and strategic IS-planning and security issues is of the essence. However, serious gaps in alignment have been identified concerning strategic IS-planning as well as in development or implementation of security controls, and selection and use of security standards. The analysis of the alignment gaps show that there is a need to bring in the users view on business requirements in IS, or rather what they need to be allowed to do - to be able to work efficiently.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present a multi-usable business continuity planning methodology. It comprises business continuity planning on the organizational and departmental levels. Design/methodology/approach - The methodology has been developed, tested and confirmed in three comprehensive cases. Senior management, IT managers and employees in the three case organizations have participated in this action research effort during the development, implementation or training on business continuity plans and planning. Findings - The methodology has been tested and confirmed, and is suitable for explaining business continuity planning to senior managements and employees in both public and private sector organizations. Practical implications - The methodology description can be used for explaining the issues to senior managements and forms the foundation for a business continuity plan, which is part of an organization's IT- and information security program. It may also be used to explain business continuity planning to other staff in an organization. The methodology can also be used to model business continuity planning, as a basis for training planning, and as support in different training contexts to achieve individual and organizational learning on business continuity plans and activities. Originality/value - The methodology of using a staircase or capability maturity model is a commonly used concept and can be adapted to any organization.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper discusses an approach to preserve presentation by using metadata to describe the ‘look' of digital documents in order to make them appear in a trustworthy way. The reason for making them appear in a trustworthy way is that documents often get record status, for example in a governmental agency. The concept of Records Continuum together with work conducted by Heslop, Davis and Wilson at National Archives of Australia regarding preservation of digital records, is some sources of inspiration for the approach suggested in this paper, together with discussions around significant properties and imitative copies. This paper focuses on discussing how metadata driven presentation of web-based forms can be a suitable way to preserve logical and physical structure of such forms, and in particular reason around a model suggested for this kind of preservation (Nilsson 2006). This is all part on an ongoing work and at the moment the focus lies on objects that are created digitally (i.e. does not have an analogue original). This paper only considers individual documents/forms/records and not records in the meaning of several digital objects that all are part of one record. The results, which are based on interviews with individuals in the archival community, point at that the suggested approach, despite some problems, could be a suitable way to handle the access to imitative copies of digital objects, but that this alone is not enough for achieving trust in the object.
