Hur stor plats tar lokalbefolkningen?: En undersökning i utbredningen av lokalnyheter i Göteborgs-Posten och Dagens Nyheter
2011 (svensk)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

How does newspaper giants, like Göteborgs-Posten (GP) and Dagens Nyheter (DN), work with the local material and how much space do they leave on the pages for their ”own city” and its news? Do these newspapers differ in this matter or do they work in similar ways? This study aims to give us some answers to these questions. To be able to get answers as truthful as possible we have compared 12 copies of the newspapers (6 numbers of GP, and 6 numbers of DN) and in total a number of 1205 articles from both newspapers. By using a chart, with different variables, filling in the right numbers we have been able to keep statistics on how much local material the two newspapers use. From the statistics we were then able to compare the newspapers to see whether they worked in a similar way or if one of them were more local. When filling in our chart we looked more carefully on 9 different variables and how they are used differently in the newspapers. Something we noticed quite early on was that Göteborgs-Posten had more articles which involved Gothenburg than Dagens Nyheter had articles involving Stockholm. Additionally, we discovered that Göteborgs-Posten let their local articles take up more space than Dagens Nyheter did. We also looked at how the newspapers refer to the inhabitants of their city. When doing so we kept statistics on how often words like ”göteborgare” (person from Gothenburg) or “stockholmare” (person from Stockholm) were used in the articles. Again we could see that there was a difference between the newspapers, and that Göteborgs-Posten was the one using “göteborgare” most frequently, and therefore could be seen as a more local newspaper.
