The purpose of this study was to screen TRAS, Early Registration Of Language development, and try to find out if TRAS can be used as an evaluation basis within the preschool. In order to preserve the main cause of the study, both local and national policy documents were investigated and previous research was used. Qualitative interviews took place in a town in the northern part of Sweden. Six respondents who all are employed within the preschool and who been mandated to use TRAS were interviewed. The starting point for this study and the analysis has had a hermeneutical approach. The result from this study implies that the material can be used in order to monitor the children's language development, but should be used carefully. The result also implies that the TRAS-material can be used as an evaluation method in the preschool. It is important that the educators have a critical approach toward their use of TRAS in order to prevent that the material turns in to an individual evaluation of a child’s abilities. If the material is used to assess individual children's abilities, it goes against the intentions of the preschool curriculum Lpfö 98/2010 (Skolverket, 2011).
