The transverse mechanical behaviour of two composites with the same matrix, an AS4/8552 carbon fiber/epoxy composite and an IM8 /8552 intermediate modulus composite, was studied in unidirectional and cross-ply laminates. The influence of the chosen fibers on failure strain and strength as well as on the multiple cracking in cross-ply laminates was analysed. The transverse cracking toughness was not affected by the different fibers.
