Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the guidelines for accessibility on playgrounds for the Swedish municipalities. Method: To answer the aim of the study a literature review with inspiration from a discourse analysis was made. The data were collected using Google as well as searching on the websites of the Swedish municipalities. Criterion for inclusion and exclusion had been selected to fit the aim of the study and led to 76 guidelines being found. The criterion for inclusion was then specified to the guidelines being about accessibility specifically on the playground, which led to 37 guidelines persisting for processing. Result: Based on the analyzed guidelines themes and categories was distinguished. The themesdescribes play value, the definition of accessibility, suggestions on measures as well as laws and regulations. These made it possible to compare and analyze the result for discussion. The categories cognition, vision, hearing, body function and hand- and arm function was linked to and compiled with the seven principles of Universal design. Conclusion: There are deficiencies in the opportunity to activity and participation for the child in playgrounds around the Swedish municipalities today. The authors suggest that a model based on Universal design with its seven principles will be formed to be used by Sweden's municipalities to have a similar approach in their future efforts to increase the availability of playgrounds.
