Abstract [en]
Interpersonal text communication is increasingly more influenced by non-verbal symbols, that often acts as expressions of emotion. Research in this field has previously shown that symbols lack the ability to alter or manipulate a text message and can only serve to reinforce the meaning of the text. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to study why, and how, emojis influence text communication. With a communication- and mediatization perspective this will be applied to three separate interviews with focus groups. The result of this study concludes that emojis have a decisive role in the interpretation, usage and evaluation of text language.
