Abstract [en]

This is a game presented at the international game competetion at the 13ECGBL conference. It is a educational design research project combining reading of classical text, in this case a picture book, with game elements to stimulate creativity and engagement in the second language classroom. The target group for the design was newly arrived students age 16-17 preparing for upper secondary school. The result from testing shows that the students were higly engaged and invested in their avatar. The experience points were motivating in the beginning, but later on the students got more motivated by taking part of the story with their avatar.
