Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this study was to investigate how some teachers in the compulsory school for pupils with intellectual disabilities describe the teaching when the student uses digital communication aids. The issued questions concerned what the teachers described facilitated and hindered the use of the students' digital communication aids, as well as how and in which contexts and for what purposes the aids were used. A qualitative approach has been used in the study. The data collection was done through semi-structured interviews with four teachers active in the compulsory school for pupils with intellectual disabilities. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The results show that teachers ability to support students who use digital communication aids is largely influenced by surrounding factors. A culture at the school where it is considered the norm to use communication aids is seen as facilitation. The fact that the schools did not own the aids is considered to make the teachers work more difficult. This mean that the aids are not allowed to be connected to the school's network and that the teachers do not have access to the aid's cloud services. Thus, the student is left without his or hers aid as the teachers need to prepare teaching material at the aid and the teachers then have to use the guardian's private cloud accounts. The teachers feel that they lack knowledge about the digital communication aids, but trainings exist, but they are not wellknown.
