Abstract [en]
In this thesis project, I will present the work that I did for Pangea Aerospace’s UNYX-Sproduct. In this document I only focus on the UNYX-S avionics development from the sys-tems engineering viewpoint and as supervisor to the supplier.
Document will go through first small overview about the company, then the system that I’ve been working with, after that we follow the journey in some what chronological order and we conclude document in small analysis of the hurdles that we have encountered.
UNYX-S is propulsion unit in development that can be used in 3-16 U CubeSats as mean to provide attitude & orbit determination in ever more challenging mission and to comply with Federal Communications Commission’s five year de-orbit regulations. UNYX-S is designed to use high test peroxide, highest concentration of hydrogen peroxide and Jet-A1 forpropellants.
My responsibility in this project is to do working design of avionics system with help ofsupplier. This task have included defining suitable requirements for the system, checking their proposed design, commenting on their approach that they have planned to get production the project timeframe.
Biggest individual tasks during my internship have been making the design reviews andthe accompanied tasks that came from making the reviews. These actions have required extensive research on the subject of how to design complex series of PCBAs to the harsh environment of space.
During the internship I have needed to use all the knowledge that I have gathered fromthe studies and my prior summer traineeships. This was not enough as expected, and dur-ing my internship I have needed to dive into the world of testing, on the whole system and component level as well as in the software engineering and its implementations in the system.
This research was done by using different standards like ECSS, ESCC, MIL and sources like Altium expert resources. By having these correct sources I have been able to increase my professionalism in great leaps.
This internship experience has revealed to me that how hard it is to design working productand how to handle supplier - orderer relationships. All these experiences are priceless and give excellent view on the work that I will be conducting after graduation.
