Abstract [en]

Industrial automation systems depend on reliable communication protocols to en-sure efficient operation and real-time responsiveness. The Factory Interface Net-work Service (FINS) protocol, developed by Omron, is widely used for interfacingwith Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)s in various industrial environments. While existing Golang implementations of the FINS protocol, such as GoFINS,provide basic functionality, they often fall short in terms of reliability, scalabil-ity, and resilience. Especially in modern, containerized, or clustered deploymentscenarios. This thesis presents a redesigned and extended implementation of the FINSprotocol in Golang, with a focus on improving stability, usability, and systemhealth monitoring. The improved library introduces support for TransmissionControl Protocol (TCP) communication, replacing the less reliable User Data-gram Protocol (UDP) approach, and incorporates features such as health checkfunctions, enhanced error handling, and reconnection strategies. A modular andmaintainable architecture was developed to support easier integration and futureextensibility. The implementation was validated through a series of tests including stresstests, network instability simulations, and multi-PLC communication scenar-ios. Results demonstrated significant improvements in robustness and fault tol-erance, particularly under adverse network conditions and distributed environ-ments. This work provides a more developer-friendly and production-ready FINSclient for Golang, supporting the evolving needs of Industry 4.0 and modernindustrial automation.
