2025 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesisAlternative title
Soldiers' experience of reintegration after deployment : a literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Litteratursökningen genomfördes i tre databaser.

Abstract [en]

The aim of the literature review was to synthesize soldiers' experience of readjusting to civilian life after overseas service. The method for answering the purpose of the study was a systematic literature review with terminological synthesis according to the SBU handbook and the guidelines in ENTREQ to create a deeper understanding of the soldiers' experiences with transparency and quality. The literature search was conducted in three databases. The study is based on an analysis of ten studies with a total of 136 participating veterans. The results consisted of three main categories: " Transformation and loss of identity,” “Navigating civilian society,” and “The role of activities in readjustment to civilian life". The conclusion shows that soldiers' readaptation after deployment is a complex and challenging process that is characterized by identity loss, role change, and a central need to regain meaningful occupation. These findings confirm the study's relevance to the field of occupational therapy.
