An inter-domain routing protocol performs routing between network domains. Domain administrators might configure routing policies in a way such that no stable state is found by the routing protocol, giving persistent routing oscillations. A mechanism that enables routing nodes to detect routing oscillations due to policy disputes has been implemented in a routing simulator. Preliminary results from performed simulations suggest that the mechanism fails to detect oscillations under certain conditions due to dynamic issues in the communication between routing nodes.
